This project presented some immediate challenges that we were excited to take on.
Our client has a lovely house with a usable garden but is built into an extreme bank requiring attention to design. The remit was to invest in the garden space to make it safe and usable for all year entertaining, day and night.
Designing usable space from steep banks is a demanding skill set, requiring significant building across multiple levels & structural knowledge. Creating new infrastructure using rustic materials on a challenging incline required detailed planning as all construction had to be hand built. We designed an elevated deck with a covered seating area providing great views for all weather conditions. We even incorporated steps that double up as seats so football and movies could be watched on an outdoor projector.
A consideration for lighting was also necessary to illuminate the evenings as well as for safe access around the steep bank. Despite challenges due to the terrain and health and safety, the project was a huge success.
