CASE STUDY
A premium finish for a prestige home.
We relished the opportunity to work on this multi-million pound project – currently renowned as Nottinghamshire’s most expensive house! The property itself was designed and built by Nottingham developer Guy Phoenix while we took care of the top-spec drive and paved areas. From a virtual mudbath, we built a dramatic driveway that wows visitors with Marshall’s Metro premium paving. A gradual slope down to the house was meticulously calculated to avoid damage to sports cars. Elsewhere, paved areas provide a choice of places to entertain, and for these, sawn sandstone gives a stylishly understated look. The project was finished to schedule and the client was thrilled with the results.

Embracing the beauty of nature in Bottesford.
The natural beauty of the countryside provided a very special setting for this substantial project, with magnificent views, a small river and abundant wildlife all on the doorstep. Our task was to create an outdoor living space for enjoyment in all seasons and at any time of day. We began by levelling the ground, then installing walls and paving in handsome large-sawn sandstone. Appealing to all senses, a rill and three rainbow spheres added a visual focal point with the sound of running water. We constructed a garden building with all the luxuries needed for relaxation – furniture, heaters, a fridge and even a wine chiller. Finally, LED lighting defined the planting and walkways, creating lovely silhouettes as the sun set.

Easy living for all the family in Edwalton.
From dark and dingy to light and airy, we transformed our client’s north-facing garden into a bright open space with something for everyone; lots of lawn for the children and a smart patio area with seating for the grown-ups. Traditional paving can be troublesome in sheltered spaces as it tends to discolour and become slippery. We brought a contemporary solution to the job with vitrified ceramic that is non-porous, resistant to fading and discolouration, and scratch-resistant. The large slabs created a classy, modern feel and fit the brief for a low-maintenance garden. We and our clients are so impressed with the finish and durability of vitrified ceramic, we believe it is set to become a very popular choice in the UK.

Having previously been advised elsewhere, the client came to us uncertain that the given plans would suit their period property. We invited them to a live job that showcased sawn sandstone, and they were inspired by the elegant results. Paving around the property with sawn sandstone both complemented the barn conversion and added a modern twist. To this we added seating areas to make the most of great views, with small planted beds for splashes of colour. This was all brought together with curving brick walls that matched the property. For the driveway we chose a modern grey to contrast the cream seating areas and echo the property roof. Lights were installed as a finishing touch for evening enjoyment.

Outdoor living and office projects.
The key to bringing the inside out and the outside in is to create as seamless a link as possible. This can be achieved in many ways, such as floor heights matching inside out; creating a focal point at the furthest view point and matching themes and colours inside out. We have designed, built and installed many garden buildings and to sympathetically integrate them into your garden whilst keeping their use practical, needs careful thought. Careful placing and planting helps seamlessly blend a building into your available space. The uses for your garden space are endless, all you need is a bit of imagination.

A good quality landscape design usually consists of both hard and soft landscaping. Hard landscaping very often forms the framework, with the soft landscaping complementing it. A good knowledge of paving is essential to match the customer’s style to the house. We have won numerous awards over the years, from national driveway awards to our most recent in 2016 for a Marshalls installed contemporary paved living area. We are members of the Marshalls Installer scheme, which is the best in the industry, offering home owners an insurance backed 10 year product and five year installation guarantee to protect their investment in their garden and driveway.

Curves create
the illusion of space.
The majority of us inherit smallish gardens and inevitably they can lack the privacy in which to create your “outdoor living space”. As a result, privacy is a recurring theme people require from their gardens. The key to it all is simplicity and working to a definite plan so that every square foot of your garden earns its keep. Smaller areas look best using a simplistic approach, don’t let them become barren wastelands without colour. Make sure careful planting adds a splash of colour, texture and scent. Using curves within our typical boxed gardens can create the illusion of space as do changes of levels. Garden lighting is a great way to make more use of your garden whilst giving a total change of scenery once the light fades to night.

Listed buildings with
sympathetic designs.
We were invited to landscape a very interesting project in Leicestershire at Scraptoft Hall. The work involved a fairly wide set of landscaping skills and design work. As a listed building, the designs and materials had to meet the approval of the planners and developers and be sympathetic to the property. The Hall’s grounds contain several new builds and conversions of the stables, blacksmiths and other older outbuildings. Most were built around a central pond that would link the houses together and allow a unique vista for the new occupants. We suggested installing a Southern Yellow Pine deck over the pond for one of the properties, as this wood has amazing durability and a beautiful grain whilst looking contemporary.

Minimal maintenance,
maximum relaxation.
The remit for this garden was typical of current trends. The customer worked from home and had a modern outlook. They liked the concept of bringing the outside in and the inside out. As the garden was on different levels the approach was to build a deck. We sourced a beautiful natural treated timber imported from the USA called Southern Yellow Pine – boasting an anti-rot guarantee of 75 years. Between breaks in work, the client wanted easy access to the garden to have a coffee and relax. They also wanted minimal maintenance, so the lawn was replaced with artificial grass.
